Hooks Secure Win Against Mudcats

Hooks topped Mudcats 9-5 on Sunday.

Hooks jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Nic Nelson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, Michael Landeck doubled, scoring one run, and Steven Mock singled, scoring one run.

Hooks added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after John Otterson walked, Daniel Zamora walked, Mudcats committed an error, and Brayden Berry walked, each scoring one run.

Hooks added one run in the third after Luis Sotomayor singled down the right field line.

Daniel Zamora stepped on the bump first for Hooks. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Nolan began the game for Mudcats. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and eight runs (five earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking six. Matt Bailey tossed one inning of scoreless ball for Hooks in relief. The pitcher gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.

Luis Sotomayor, Michael Landeck, Steven Mock, John Otterson, and Matt Bailey each collected one hit for Hooks. Luis Sotomayor, Michael Landeck, Steven Mock, and Nic Nelson each drove in one run for Hooks. Hooks had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. John Otterson, Brandon Collins, and Daniel Zamora led the team with two free passes each. Hooks turned one double play in the game.

Robert Beck provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mudcats with two runs batted in. Robert Beck went 1-for-3 on the day. William Bush went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Mudcats in hits. Ethan Wilkins led Mudcats with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game.

Next up for Hooks is a game against Cubs on Sunday.
