Nic Nelson collected three hits in three at bats, as Hooks defeated Mudcats 11-2 on Sunday at McInnish Sports Complex. Nelson singled in the fifth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first inning.
Hooks scored six runs in the fifth inning on the way to victory. John Otterson singled, scoring one run, Nelson singled, scoring three runs, Matt Bailey doubled, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored one run.
Hooks opened the scoring in the second after Rodney McDaniel singled, scoring one run.
Bailey earned the win for Hooks. The righty allowed two hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three. Noah took the loss for Mudcats. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking three.
Hooks tallied 13 hits in the game. Otterson led Hooks with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Bailey collected two hits for Hooks in four at bats. Nick Hekkert paced Hooks with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
Bush and Manny each collected one hit for Mudcats. Manny led Mudcats with one run batted in. The leadoff hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.
