A walk-off left Hooks on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Warriors on Sunday at McInnish Baseball Fields. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the eighth when Spencer doubled, scoring one run.
Hooks collected eight hits and Warriors had 14 in the high-scoring affair.
Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Hooks committed an error, and Ben hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Warriors added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Matt hit a sacrifice fly, and Peyton singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Warriors added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Spencer singled to center field, and Aiden hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Hooks tied the game up in the top of the seventh thanks to two doubles. Hooks tied the game at eight on a double by Nick Hekkert.
Ben earned the win for Warriors. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Matt Bailey took the loss for Hooks. The reliever went four and one-third innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking one. Brandon Collins stepped on the mound first for Hooks. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and six runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking one. Peyton stepped on the bump first for Warriors. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one.
John Otterson and Daniel Zamora were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Hooks while hitting back-to-back. Daniel Zamora and Andrew Brocious each drove in two runs for Hooks. Hooks had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Brandon Collins, Matt Bailey, and Ryan Vera led the team with two bases on balls each. Hooks turned two double plays in the game.
Warriors accumulated 14 hits in the game. Spencer provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Warriors with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Matt, Ben, Chris, and Spencer each collected two hits for Warriors. Warriors turned one double play in the game.
Hooks will travel to Bulldogs for their next game on Sunday.
