Otterson A Difficult Out As Hooks Defeat Devil Rays

John Otterson collected three hits in five at bats, as Hooks defeated Devil Rays 24-4 on Sunday at Valley Ridge Park. John Otterson doubled in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning.

Hooks jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after a passed ball scored one run, and Rodney McDaniel singled, scoring two runs.

Hooks added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after John Otterson doubled, Nic Nelson singled, and , each scoring one run.

Hooks scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. A passed ball scored one run, B Lockard induced John Otterson to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Nic Nelson doubled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Steven Mock doubled, scoring one run, Ryan Vera tripled, scoring one run, and Rodney McDaniel grounded out, scoring one run.

Hooks scored 10 runs on eight hits in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Vera singled, scoring one run, Brandon Collins singled, scoring one run, Ethan Lopez was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Nick Zamora singled, scoring two runs, John Otterson singled, scoring one run, Nic Nelson doubled, scoring one run, Dom Coro hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Ryan Vera drew a walk, scoring one run, and X Winfield induced Brandon Collins to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Brandon Collins earned the win for Hooks. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking one. B Lockard took the loss for Devil Rays. The pitcher went three innings, giving up 14 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, striking out five and walking two. Ryan Vera collected the save.

Hooks collected 19 hits in the game. Rodney McDaniel, Steven Mock, John Otterson, and Nic Nelson each collected three hits for Hooks. Rodney McDaniel, John Otterson, and Nic Nelson each drove in three runs for Hooks. Nick Zamora and Ryan Vera each collected multiple hits for Hooks. Dom Coro paced Hooks with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Dom Coro stole three bases. Hooks ran wild on the base paths, amassing seven stolen bases for the game.

B Lockard and D Ward were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Devil Rays while hitting back-to-back. J Mitchell, K Shavers, and C Mitchell each drove in one run for Devil Rays.

Next up for Hooks is a game against Bulldogs on Sunday.
