Nelson's Big Day Propels Hooks Past Swat

Nic Nelson collected three hits in four at bats, as Hooks defeated Swat 9-6 on Sunday. Nic Nelson tripled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

Hooks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Nic Nelson tripled, Steven Mock singled, Luis Sotomayor singled, Coleman Gamble singled, and Dustin Thompson singled, each scoring one run.

Hooks extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Daniel Zamora and Nic Nelson.

Swat scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Merrifield doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Gregory singled, scoring one run, and Dustin Thompson induced Lopez Jr. to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Daniel Zamora earned the win for Hooks. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out 10 and walking none. Kubankin took the loss for Swat. The reliever went two innings, giving up zero runs on three hits, striking out two and walking none. Dustin Thompson led things off on the bump for Hooks. They surrendered four hits and six runs (five earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking three.

Hooks tallied 17 hits in the game. Nic Nelson and Daniel Zamora were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Hooks. Rodney McDaniel and Nic Nelson each drove in two runs for Hooks. Nick Zamora, Luis Sotomayor, Coleman Gamble, and Steven Mock each collected multiple hits for Hooks. Nick Zamora stole two bases. Hooks stole four bases in the game.

Lopez Jr., Merrifield, Gregory, and Embree each collected one hit for Swat. Lopez Jr. and Merrifield each drove in two runs for Swat. Swat turned one double play in the game.
